| In the Name of the One. L.E.G.A.C.Y. is a Spiritual energy – an entrepreneur, songstress, producer, and community organizer to name a few. Her works and passions are in the realm of creating empowering and innovative media, implementing organizational management and living naturally. L.E.G.A.C.Y. has been composing on the piano since the age of 6 with no formal education. Among her musical accomplishments is her debut album “Legacy: The Album” which was re-released in July 2007 with new packaging and technical mixing as a gift to all her supporters for the overwhelming support received. She is currently working on another album to be released in 2010. She has also published “The L.E.G.A.C.Y. Vibration” newsletter as another gift, in an effort to support collective and cooperative community growth. At 24 years of age, she has defied the status quo while inspiring many, through her music and works, to do the same. With a reputation worth more than gold, L.E.G.A.C.Y. (born Nusaiba) lives her life for the upliftment of Oneness, for the upliftment of the global communities in which she dwells and encounters. She is a Pan Afrikanist and an active member in the All Afrikan Youth Movement (AAYM) which works towards organizing and mobilizing Afrikan youth in the Diaspora and on the continent. When asked why she lives life in the manner in which she has, L.E.G.A.C.Y. is quoted as saying: “Our communities have been strategically and wholistically broken through the Body (food we eat or do not eat), the Mind (negative media portrayal) and Spirit (lack of knowledge of Self due to poor education and brain washing and the fragmentation of our families). With that said, now we have to strategically and wholistically put our communities back together by eating the right food, abstaining from the “Corporate Kitchen”, feeding our minds with empowering media, including music, and giving our youth the tools they need to arm themselves with self confidence, self-knowledge and community progress.” L.E.G.A.C.Y. was born to Edwin Jackson and Yvonne Washington-Turay. She has three older brothers, one older sister and three younger brothers. Her family life is where she first learned the concept of collective and cooperative growth and development – a concept that obligates one to make many sacrifices for the sake of the whole. She engages in several projects that are based in her immediate family. She believes that the core of ones foundation is in the family unit, whether it be blood-related or ideological. The name L.E.G.A.C.Y. was given to her by Phil Spawken, her brother and musical collaborator, in 1995. At first hearing, she was hesitant to accept the name, however, after being told what it symbolically stood for, she readily embraced the gift of her new name and is now well known by it. L.E.G.A.C.Y. is an acronym standing for Lovely Elegant Graceful And Charismatic Youth. Take the time to get to know L.E.G.A.C.Y. through her music, lyrics, publications and causes.
